Open Robotics Group
The Open Robotics Group, of Mechanical Eng. & Aeronautics Dept., with scientific supervisors Prof. George Nikolakopoulos and Asst. Prof. Panagiotis Koustoumpardis, includes in its staff 2 collaborating postdoctoral researchers, 3 Ph.D. candidates, 10 research engineers, 20 under/post-graduate students who are members of the Robotics Club (focusing on design, construction, and programming of robotic systems), approximately 15 undergraduate students, who annually work on their master thesis in the scientific field of robotics, and 17 member volunteer coaches of the Robots@UP educational robotics aiming at spreading the robotics technologies to all educational levels and the wider society. The group has published more than 200 papers in international journals and conferences while developing and providing educational and research activities in the fields of: robot design and control, development of soft and rigid grippers, manipulation of non-rigid materials, path/motion/mission planning for robot manipulators, mobile robots, and UAVs, intelligent and swarm control, human-robot cooperation and physical interaction, industrial automation, and robotic rehabilitation systems.
