The participation of “Patras IQ” for the first time in the 82nd Thessaloniki International Fair held from 9 to 17 September 2017, and specifically in the exhibition stand at ACADEMIA (stand No. 14 Stand 23) which hosts public and private organizations, companies and institutions that active in the field of education and research, was crowned with great success and attracted the interest of visitors.
“Patras IQ” ‘traveled’ to the north showcasing at its stand its initiative and actions, mature and innovative ideas from laboratories of the University of Patras and the TEI of Western Greece, as well as the products of start-ups that emerged from cooperation with universities and research bodies.
Her participation coincided with the official announcement of the dates of the 5th Innovation Fair & PATRAS IQ Knowledge Transfer which will be held on 27, 28 & April 29, 2018 at the Sports Center “DIMITRIS TOFALOS” .
The pavilion received a large number of visitors who talked to the representatives of the laboratories, companies and Patras IQ, while important figures of the political scene also showed great interest.
Among them, the Minister of Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Information Mr. Pappas, the Minister of Education, Research and Religions Mr. Gavroglou, the President of New Democracy Mr. Mitsotakis, the leader of the Democratic Coalition Mrs. Gennimata, the Secretary General of the KK Koutsoumbas, the Member of Parliament for Achaia Mr. Spartinos, the Member of Parliament for Athens Mrs. Karamanlis, were guided and informed about the exhibits as well as the upcoming 5th Patras IQ Exhibition.
The meeting with Ambassador Pyatt of the United States, who visited the pavilion and made a special mention on the website of the American Embassy, was also particularly important.
National Enterprise Award European Enterprise Promotion Awards –EEPA 2017 for PATRASIQ
PATRAS IQ was honored with the National Award European Enterprise Promotion Awards – EEPA 2017 , in the category Entrepreneurship Promotion and was selected to represent Greece in the 2nd phase of the tender process to claim Pan-European Award, to be held in November 2017 in Tallinn, Estonia.
The European Entrepreneurship Promotion Awards are organized by the European Union and nationally by the General Secretariat for Industry. The PATRAS IQ initiative, which connects research with entrepreneurship, has been a co-organization since 2016, through a 10-year program contract, of the Ministries of Economy & Development and Education, Research and Religions, the University of Patras, the Hellenic Open University, the Technological Educational Institution of Western Greece, the Region of Western Greece and the Chamber of Achaia.
PATRAS IQ – 4th INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY EXHIBITION EXHIBITION
On Sunday night, the gates of the 4th Patras IQ exhibition that took place from the 7th to the 9th of April at the Pampeloponnisian Stadium in Patras were closed. 100 exhibitors in 88 booths, presented the research treasures produced in Academic Institutions, companies that utilize knowledge in a mature product and corporate schemes based on innovation. The attendance of more than 7000 visitors exceeded all the expectations of the organizers and showed that the society and the business world have embraced this effort, which aims – the cooperation of research organizations and companies to improve their competitiveness and – the invitation young people to become entrepreneurs by leveraging innovation. At the same time, there were many events with targeted topics and selected speakers.On Friday, April 7, the Chamber of Achaia organized an event on “Local Innovation Support Ecosystem & amp; Intelligent Entrepreneurship “ while the student team of the University of Patras Mindspace curated the event” Mindspace All-Stars ” with speakers Mr. Peter Economides, Stavros Messini and Pavlos Eumorphides. During the events, a workshop was organized on “Useful Skills for the first steps of a startuper” by “Comvos – Scientific Student Groups of PP”. On Saturday, April 8. sessions Innovation & Entrepreneurship “by the Institute of Computer Technology & Diofantos Publications and “Changing the Academic Landscape in Distance Education” and “Innovation & amp; Entrepreneurship in EAP – Department of Special Account Management “ from the Hellenic Open University, Also the session ” Innovation, Science and Communication “ from Liberal.gr. And the founder of Forthnet Mr. Pantelis Tzortzakis spoke on “Today is your turn… You can too! From a University laboratory in the main market of the ASE “. During the events Mindspace Patras organized a workshop on “Idea to product” . The Opening and the Central Event of the exhibition took place at 18.00 with the Deputy Minister of Research and Innovation Mr. Costas Fotakis as the main speaker, with the theme “Building a comprehensive policy for Research and Innovation” < / strong>. The event was attended by a large number of people while the former Prime Minister, Mr. George Papandreou, the Vice President of the European Parliament, Mr. Dimitris Papadimoulis, the Governor of Western Greece, Mr. Apostolos Katsifaras, the Secretary General addressed a greeting. of the Ministry of Economy and Development Mr. Elias Xanthakos. The event was coordinated by the Chairman of the Organizing Committee Patras IQ and Deputy Rector for Research and Development Prof. Demosthenes Polyzos. The second day ended with a reception, which was given the opportunity for discussion and networking between exhibitors, investors, representatives of institutions, entrepreneurs, students, employees, etc. On Sunday, April 9, the events on “Innovation Actions by the National Bank” were held with representatives of the National Bank, as well as “Financing Tools for Innovation and Business Ideas” , and “Research and Innovation-Intellectual Property Protection” organized by S.E.B Peloponnese & amp; Of Western Greece. At the same time, briefing was provided by the GSRT staff on the Current Bilateral Actions within the EPANEK, Special Research and Development Actions within the EPANEK: Aquaculture, Industrial Materials, Open Innovation in Culture, as well as Presentations > “Research-Create-Innovate” . In the afternoon, the sessions ended with the Build Your Corporate Scheme event for the Research-Create-Innovate program where participants were given the opportunity to develop collaborations in order to participate with a joint proposal in the aforementioned program. During the events took place the workshop “Soft Skills Training: Entrepreneurial Mindset” organized by Comvos – Scientific Student Groups of the PP. In addition to the Educational Institutions and Institutes of Western Greece, the exhibition was attended by Universities and TEI from all over the country, innovative companies / start-ups, start-ups and representatives of innovation agencies. Finally, it is worth noting that during the event more than 15 B2B meetings took place between researchers and investment funds. The responsibility of the organization was a committee of executives from all the bodies participating in the program contract, with the help of 70 student volunteers from the Universities and TEI.
The exhibition “Transfer of Knowledge” Patras IQ “, which has already been implemented three times in 2012, 2015 & 2016, aims to develop and strengthen the cooperation of the research community with the productive sector, benefiting the citizens of the region in many ways and in the following ways:
1. The application of research and innovation in the productive industry creates new competitive products, generates new needs and ultimately creates new jobs. The new jobs offer income to the region and multiplier benefits to the national economy.
2. Attracting investors from Greece and abroad, who can invest in our region productively and with services utilizing the products of knowledge with the consequent increase of the competitiveness of the local and national economy with all the positive results that it will have.

• Applied research presentations
• Speeches of start-up founders and innovative small and medium enterprises
• Talks on the transfer of know-how, intellectual property and finding resources to finance the conversion of innovative ideas into products
More specifically, researchers present in the productive sector and to investors, mature research results that have the potential to be used productively and commercially. Corresponding problems faced by the manufacturing sector can be discussed with researchers and solutions suggested.
This Initiative contributes to the creation of a critical competitive advantage, both in the research community and in the productive sector, through the constant effort to solve problems and implement innovative ideas. In addition, it aspires to be a tool for researchers who wish to present their applied research in the productive field.
The purpose of these actions is to familiarize both researchers and the productive sector with the management of knowledge and the exploitation of innovative ideas, with mechanisms and conditions for building networks, collaborative formations and alternative ways of financing innovation.
The exhibition is under the auspices of the Ministries of Education, Research and Religions and Economy, Development and Tourism with the signing of a program contract between them and the University of Patras , Chamber of Achaia, of the Region of Western Greece , of the Hellenic Open University and of the Technological Educational Institution of Western Greece .
